One can’t help but fall instantly in love with the great state of Georgia, from the picturesque mountains to the sweet aroma of Georgia peaches. It’s no wonder many people can relate to the state’s theme song of “Georgia on My Mind,” as it is hard to get Georgia out of your mind. However, Georgia is also a state that is mindful of rising drug and alcohol abuse trends and the need for intervention.

The increase in dangerous opioids, such as fentanyl and heroin, has increased the statistics of overdose deaths by drugs significantly, with deaths from fentanyl going up from under 500 deaths in 2018 to almost 1,000 in 2020. Most deaths are men in the age range of 35-44 years old.

As for alcohol abuse statistics, an average of 3,953 deaths occur annually from excessive alcohol abuse in Georgia. Around 81.6% of deaths from alcohol abuse are people ages 35 and over, as well as 3.67% of deaths, are aged 21 and under.

If your loved one is at the risk of becoming one of these statistics for their drug and/or alcohol abuse, the time to act is now and get them the intervention help they need on their path toward recovery.

How does Intervention in Georgia Work?

There is more than one type of intervention to consider for your loved one, which is discussed prior to the intervention. When you reach out to us, we connect you with one of our professional intervention specialists to go over options together as family and friends of the addicted person. This is so everyone can be on the same page regarding what would be the best intervention option that will provide their loved one dignity and respect during this challenging time.

An intervention is a staged effort by family and friends, with the guidance of a professional interventionist, to come together and provide support and awareness to a loved one trapped in the perils of addiction. The hope is that by coming together to confront the person peacefully and lovingly, they will understand the danger they are in and seek help immediately.

One option for intervention in Georgia is coming together as a group, led by the interventionist, to confront the person personally, sharing individually with the addicted person how their choices are harmful and hurting not only themselves but those around them. Another option is participating in a workshop, led by one of our interventionists, that encourages everyone to speak about the person’s addiction and ways help can lead to sobriety.

The overall goal for every family we try to help with intervention is to encourage respect, love, and hope, the motto Intervention.com lives by. We want to help the family and friends of an addicted person know they can take part in helping their loved one seek recovery.

No matter the reason for the intervention, whether for drugs, alcohol, mental health, or eating disorders, our professional interventionists are up to the task of letting a loved one know change is possible and necessary.

Georgia Drug and Alcohol Intervention: When to Get Help

The question on everyone’s mind is probably when to know if your loved one needs help. Although it is important to get help for your loved one’s addiction, you don’t want to be in the midst of staging an intervention if you aren’t sure your loved one needs it.

Some tell-tale signs that your loved one’s addiction might be getting out of control include noticeably impaired judgment, mood swings (sometimes that are violent), self-isolation, decreased concern for proper hygiene, the desire to hurt themselves, and an increased need for drugs, alcohol, or addiction of choice.

Despite the signs listed here, it is important to discuss with a licensed and professional interventionist to see if these signs are true indicators of your loved one’s spiral into drug addiction. We at Intervention.com are here to help in any way, providing our knowledge and resources with the utmost care and discretion.
