Where a drug addict can practice full abstinence, a food addict obviously cannot. We eat three times a day regularly. Our first meal was the mouth to breast connection between feeding and family. Food is the powerful fuel for life that is a boon to all, and bane to many. Research tells us too that we get healthier with food together.
From fast food’s super-sized meals, bigger cups, plates and clothing labels, even ingredient labels often have hidden sugars and mislabeled corn sugars, and a social affection for indulgence. The food and weight pandemic of this country is a battle we each see and feel.
Add to it co-occurring disorders like depression, low self-esteem, or anxiety and you have an addiction cycle that is just as serious and painful as drugs and alcohol, but with the added layer of social injustice and labels such as ‘you’re just lazy’ and accusations of ‘it’s your fault’. We take away the shame, blame, and guilt. We uncover the truth of the issue and start healing from a place of love and acceptance. We travel the path of holistic healing together.
We know things to be different, and we know that each person facing obesity deserves to be honored and treated with kindness and respect. We base our program on Brad Lamm’s book Just 10 LBS: a simple and effective 90-day program that enables you to become the person you’ve always wanted to be. We start with the attainable goal of losing just ten pounds at a time.
