From 2015 to 2019, the five-year average of deaths from excessive alcohol abuse in Massachusetts has increased by as much as 57.2%. Globally, the CDC estimates that excessive alcohol abuse has contributed to 71,022 deaths per year and cost the state of Massachusetts $5.635 billion, which, considering inflation in 2022, would be $7.607 billion.
